Levofloxacin Ornidazole

Suspension

This suspension is a combination of a broad-spectrum antibiotic and an antiprotozoal agent for effective treatment of gastrointestinal infections. Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that acts against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, while Ornidazole is effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa.
The combination provides comprehensive coverage, helps eliminate infection-causing organisms, reduces symptoms like diarrhea and abdominal discomfort, and promotes faster recovery.

Mechanism

Levofloxacin
Inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing DNA replication and leading to bacterial cell death.
Ornidazole
Enters anaerobic organisms and disrupts DNA structure and synthesis, resulting in cell death.

Side Effects

  • Nausea & vomiting
  • Headache or dizziness
  • Metallic taste (due to Ornidazole)

Contraindication

  • Hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or nitroimidazoles
  • Severe liver disease (use with caution)
  • History of tendon disorders with quinolones

Dosage

  • As directed by the physician.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

  • Antacids & iron: Reduce absorption of Levofloxacin
  • Alcohol: May increase side effects with Ornidazole
  • Antidiabetic drugs: May alter blood glucose levels

  • Avoid alcohol during treatment
